SA60 SA60
The SA60 is a pulse width modulation amplifier that cansupply10Acontinuouscurrenttotheload.Thefull bridge amplifier can be operated over a wide range ofsupplyvoltages.Allofthedrive/controlcircuitryfor the lowside and highside switches are internal to the hybrid. The PWM circuitry is internal as well, leaving theusertoonlyprovideananalogsignalforthemotor speed/direction,oraudiosignalforswitchmodeaudio amplification.TheinternalPWMfrequencycanbeprogrammedbyanexternalintegratorcapacitor.Alternatively,theusermayprovideanexternalTTL-compatible PWMsignalforsimultaneousamplitudeanddirection controlforfourquadrantmode.

Awidevarietyofloadscanbedrivenineitherthevoltage mode or the current mode. The most common applicationsusethreeexternalblocks:alowpassfilterconvertingpulsewidthdatatoananalogoutput,adifferenceamplifiertomonitorvoltageorcurrentandanerroramplifier. Filterinductorsmustbesuitableforsquarewavesatthe switchingfrequency(laminatedsteelisgenerallynotacceptable). Filter capacitors must be low ESR and rated fortheexpectedripplecurrent.Adifferenceamplifierwith gainoflessthanonetranslatesthedifferentialoutputvoltagetoasinglefeedbackvoltage.Dashedlineconnections andahighergaindifferenceamplifierwouldbeusedforcurrentcontrol.Theerroramplifierintegratesthedifference betweentheinputandfeedbackvoltagestoclosetheloop.

TheSA60containsaninternalPWMoscillatorwhosefrequencyisdeterminedbyanexternalcapacitorconnected betweenpin1andpin2.Maximumfrequencyis125kHz.TheusermayalsodisregardtheinternalPWMoscillator andsupplytheSA60withanexternalTTLpulsegeneratorupto250KHZ. VCC-isthelowvoltagesupplyforpoweringinternallogicanddriversforthelowsideandhighsideMOSFETS.The suppliesforthehighsidedriversarederivedfromthisvoltage. VS-isthehighervoltageH-bridgesupply.TheMOSFETSobtaintheoutputcurrentfromthissupplypin.Thevoltage onthispinislimitedto+80VbythedriveIC.TheMOSFETSareratedat100volts. Capacitortypesratedforswitchingapplicationsaretheonlytypesthatshouldbeconsidered.The1Fceramic capacitormustbephysicallyconnecteddirectlytotheVsandPOWERGNDpins.Evenoneinchofleadlengthwill causeexcessiveringingattheoutputs.Thisisduetotheveryfastswitchingtimesandtheinductanceofthelead connection.ThebypassingrequirementsoftheVccsupplyarelessstringent,butstillnecessary.A.1Fto.47F ceramiccapacitorconnecteddirectlytotheVccandANALOGGNDpinswillsuffice. ThedesignerneedstoappreciatethattheSA60combinesinonecircuitbothhighspeedhighpowerswitchingand lowlevelanalogsignals.Certainlayoutrulesofthumbmustbeconsideredwhenacircuitboardlayoutisdesigned usingtheSA60: 1. Bypassingofthepowersuppliesiscritical.Capacitorsmustbeconnecteddirectlytothepowersupplypinswith veryshortleadlengths(wellunder1inch).Ceramicchipcapacitorsarebest. 2. ConnectANALOGGNDtoPOWERGNDwithaconductorhavingnointermediateconnections.ConnectallVs powersupply,filterandloadrelatedgroundconnectionstoPOWERGNDkeepingtheseconductorsseparate

CURRENTSENSE
Therearetwoloadcurrentsensingpins,ISENSEAandISENSEB.ThetwopinscanbeshortedtoPOWERGND inthevoltagemodeconnectionbutbothmustbeusedinthecurrentmodeconnection.Itisrecommendedthat RSENSEresistorsbenon-inductive.LoadcurrentflowsintheISENSEpins.TheSA60hasnointernalcurrent limit. AnRCnetworkofa100pFCapacitorandaoneohmresistorisrequiredasshownintheexternalconnectiondiagramonpage1.Thisnetworkassuresproperoperationundervariousloads.Minimalpowerisdissipatedinthe resistor.
